Duo Duo

DuoDuo is the pseudonym of the Chinese writer Li Shizheng (栗世征) who was born in Beijing in the year of 1951. Li Shizeng is a contemporary Chinese writer who is considered as one of the most famous promoters of the Misty poetry or Obscure poetry in the modern literature. During the Cultural Revolution in China, he was sent to the region of Baiyangdian. In this isolated place, Duo Duo began to write some poems. His poems are pretty small and elliptical; they include many influences of western writers such as Sylvia Plath, Marina Tsvetaeva and Charles Baudelaire. However, in 1980 he drastically changed the style of his poetry.

Although Li Shizeng was a follower of Bei Dao for many years, critics agree that the style of Duo Duo is quite different from Bei Dao because the poetry of the contemporary writer employs a lot of flowing lines and uses the rhetoric as a principal literary element. Thanks to his literary work he traveled to different part of the world such as England, Netherlands and Canada. In 2004, he returned to his country and the Chinese younger generation of poets honored him for his excellent work in this year. Nowadays he is a teacher at Hainan University in Hainan Island, in China.

誰抓住的男孩

當沒有風,有鳥

“有鳥,但沒有早晨”

男孩誰抓到黃蜂進入從左邊的一幅畫

這個電話的樹木,已截獲鳥

“小媽媽,有利於麥田你擁有我”

三,把鳥追逐太陽

“小媽媽,小腿肚在你的腹部有感動”

而在世界上最黑的馬奔騰起來

“小媽媽,棺材來自南方”

樹是稱重,稱重孩子的頭

孩子的尖叫聲,一直留在一個梨

更多的人,一直在外的畫

孩子使用五個腿站立

現在他的腿沙

樹苗無法發芽葉子開始一周

一個成熟的李子,然後大聲呼喊:“你 - 我們”
The Boy Who Catches

When there is no wind, there are birds

“There are birds, but there is no morning”

The boy who catches wasps enters from the left side of a painting

The call of the trees, has been intercepted by birds

“Little Mama, wheat fields you possess favor me”

Three suns chasing one bird

“Little Mama, the calf in your belly has moved”

The blackest horse in the world gallops up

“Little Mama, the coffin comes from the south”

The trees are weighing, weighing the child’s head

The child’s screams, have been left inside a pear

Even more people, have been left outside the painting

The child uses five legs to stand

Now his legs are sand

Saplings unable to sprout leaves start to week

A ripened plum then cries out “You — Us”

Instant

The instant the sound of the street cellist recollects

In the sky at dusk the last brilliant fleck of sunlight, is dying out

Dying over an old railroad station

A gray intestine opens wide in the sky

Outside it there is nothing

Except for a weight, still sitting atop the river's surface

That was the weight of the church shimmering

Now, it seems there is only silence

After the sound of the cello there is only silence

Trees quietly change color

Children quietly drink their milk

The sand freighter quietly sails by

We watch, like tiles quietly watching a roof

We sniff, the air of when whoever and we were together

It's already quietly died out

Whoever existed, is was only light displayed no more

Whoever left themselves, it was only an instant

Whoever said that instant was our whole life

And this instant, the sound of Scottish rain

Suddenly pattering on a basin
